Let's Express

THE HAND’S ON THE OTHER FOOT NOW!

When the news filtered in about the car attack in Charlottesville it was presented here as an open and shut case. The scenario was that demands had been made for a statue of Robert E. Lee to be taken down and removed and in response, we are told, white supremacists gathered to protest against its removal. All very credible so far.

Then, we were told, a peaceful counter-demonstration gathered in support of the destruction to the statue on the grounds that it was offensive and racist. They too were entitled to express their opinion in a free country. But then apparently, some guy from the white supremacist’s side jumped into his car and ploughed into the counter-demonstration causing death and injury. Is that what you heard too?

Donald Trump is prone to make reference to fake news and I have a certain sympathy with that view. There does appear to be a departure from the old impartiality in our news in favour of a dogmatic leftist ideology which demands to be believed because they say so. The above account of Charlottesville forbids any other account of the facts and the united news channels all parroted it simultaneously.

Certainly the driver was apprehended and arrested and is now in police custody, awaiting trial and sentence we presume. But he has already been tried and sentenced by the official media and should he get off, there’ll be big trouble. If you think about it, it’s another form of mob rule, in this case the media mob. So, the next hurdle is the trial of the driver. You’d have to think that if the only witnesses are the counter-protestors then he’ll be hanged, drawn and quartered. I mean, who’s going to stand up for he lad if the only witnesses are the offended parties?

Which brings me to this little ditty I stumbled upon while looking for something else entirely. An actual video of the event has emerged that may give a completely different spin to the story. If you hit the ‘about’ button on the site you will see that it is a pretty dubious source but watch the video nevertheless. The story it tells is of an innocent bloke tuning down the wrong street and coming face to face with the counter-demonstrators. My first thought was the video must be a fake but it looks the part.

The alternative version of events then claims the guy drove slowly towards the crowd in the hope they would part and allow his car through. Instead you will see on the video a bloke from the crowd began to bash the car with a baseball bat. When that happened the driver accelerated forward to get away from that baseball bat but stopped again. That’s when the angry crowd began to push in around his car and, according to the Charlottesville police, that’s when he panicked and tried to escape them. The article with the video claims that, “The police officers in Charlottesville believed the driver was not acting maliciously, suggesting he was scared by the protesters on every side of his vehicle and he did not know what to do.”

Now I hasten to add that I wasn’t there and I doubt that you were either. The so-called, “Department of Memes,” would not be my idea of a reliable source either but then neither would the BBC in recent years. In the absence of a third account of events though, either the mainstream media are lying or the Church of Trump is.

They can’t both be right.
