  1. Yes, I'd agree with the general core of that post. I have to admit that when I was young I would get legless on a fairly regular basis, but these days I prefer to maintain a modicum of control. So I only drink about a bottle of red a night. I am what you might call a 'red wine man', although I do enjoy a beer, too. Spirits I like, but drink rarely. I've got bottles (lots of them, malts and Irish, tequila, vodka, gin, grappa, ouzo, tsipouro, brandy, you name it – must be more than 50 bottles of wierd and wonderful spitits from all over the world) in the drinks cabinet that are 15 years old, and still half full. However, being a 'red wine man', and regularly consuming well above the risible 'recommended levels', I generally drink table wine. As luck would have it, there is a wholesale outlet here for a winery in Axaia, and they do very good quality table wines. In red, they have Cabernet Sauvignon, Agiorgitiko (a local grape), and Merlot, all coming in at 12.5% ABV. In white they have Chardonnay, Mosxofilero and a couple of others I don't remember, not being a 'white wine man'.

Best of all, they sell them in wine boxes, so there's no faffing around with corks, and no worries about spoilage (although that's never been a problem I've had…). I normally buy the Merlot, which really is very drinkable – more than acceptable, in fact. I buy this in 10 litre boxes, and it costs me the princley sum of €20, or €2 per litre.

    I can live with that.
